Traveling during regular instructional periods is strongly discouraged and is considered “Unexcused”. For this reason, NVMS is not responsible for automatically providing school make-up work.
The State of Hawaii has termed any student who has 15 or more absences as “Chronically Absent”. The DOE provides Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer breaks for the purpose of family time, including travel.
If traveling during regular instructional days is unavoidable, you are required to follow this procedure:
- Complete and submit the Student Travel Notification Form.pdf which is available in the office. (Do Not ONLY inform your child’s teacher).
- Submit the completed Form to the office at least one week prior to the date of absence/trip.
