Traveling during regular instructional periods is strongly discouraged and is considered “Unexcused”.  For this reason, NVMS will not provide missed school work prior to the absence.  The State of Hawaii has termed any student who has 15 or more absences as “Chronically Absent”.  The DOE provides Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer breaks for the purpose of family time, including travel.

If traveling during regular instructional days is unavoidable, you are required to follow this procedure:

  • Complete and submit the Student Travel Notification Form which is available in the office.  (Do Not ONLY inform your child’s teacher).
  • Submit the completed Form to the office at least one week prior to the date of absence/trip.  This form can be found on our school website under the scroll down menu item, Current School Year, under Forms and Guidelines – Student Travel Notification.
