Summer Grade 6 Program

NVMS Summer Grade 6 Enrichment/Transition Program

SESSION 1 is CLOSED.  Limit spots for Session 2.

Program information:

Requirements Students must be enrolled for Grade 6 at Niu Valley Middle School for the school year 2024-2025.
Fee No Fee: The program has no fees, however the program is dependent on the approval of grant funds. Space is limited to 104 students per session.
Goal Transition students to Niu Valley Middle School

  • Reinforcing IB Learner Profile Traits and IB Approaches to Learning skills needed for middle school success
  • Acclimating students to our campus and the IB Middle Years Programme
  • Supporting social-emotional learning needs
  • Providing whole child learning opportunities
Dates

Session 1: 6/10/24 – 6/21/24 (holiday on 6/11/24) (CLOSED)

Session 2: 6/24/24 – 7/5/24 (holiday on 7/4/24)

Times 8:00am – 11:30am

In-person on-campus Learning

Morning snack or lunch will not be provided.

Classes All students will be placed in the following summer classes:

Social Emotional Learning / Guidance Workshop

Study Skills / Organization Workshop

English Language Arts Workshop

STEAM/Enrichment Workshop 

All classes are non-credit

Classes may be subject to change

Student Expectations Student must:

  • Attend in-person daily (no distance learning option will be available)
  • Actively engage in activities
  • Complete all assigned lessons
  • Inform the school no later than 8:30am if they will be missing school and arrange for work to be picked up
  • Follow all NVMS and DOE policies and procedures

The safety and well-being of our students are foremost. The Summer School Director or designee shall impose disciplinary action against any student attending summer school according to Chapter 19. Any student who commits a class A or class B offense shall be dismissed from summer school. A summer school student who commits two of any class C or D offense shall receive a warning for the first offense and may be released from summer school for the second offense.

Dress Code School uniforms are not required for Summer School, however any clothing that distracts or disturbs students from learning may need to be replaced by the parent/guardian. Clothing shall not have any obscene or objectionable content. Shirts with straps over the shoulder must have straps that measure at least 1-1/2 inches thick. Shorts and skirts shall be longer than finger-tip length above the knee. No ripped jeans are allowed. Undergarments shall not be visible and clothing must be of a proper fit and size.  Students must wear footwear at all times.  

 

Applications will be accepted starting Monday 2/5/24 at 7:30am via online Google Form or through a printed form submitted to the NVMS front office.  Space is limited to 104 students per session.  Applications will be received on a first-come, first-served basis.  The program is only open to students registered for Niu Valley Middle School Grade 6 in SY 2024-2025.  Emailed application will not be accepted.

Confirmation emails will be sent out once enrollment is finalized.
